Soft Reflex is a two-person exhibition presented by Outback Arthouse for Other Places Art Fair featuring Frankie Carino and Elizabeth Hatke. The work being shown, made predominantly from stone carvings and fiberglass, results from slow, laborious processes. One artist layering and the other unlayering. These of-the-moment repetitive and time-consuming activities have primed the artists for what has become an isolating time. Together the work, which feels both un-natural and man-made at the same time, becomes activated and playful in a landscape unbothered by human concerns. These artists use varying texture and subtle color choices to make work that can slip between feeling like relics from both past and future, yet will undoubtedly become markers of how they spent their time during this specific, strange moment.
